Welcome to Erudite Tales, a fantasy universe rich with a deep history of sprawling civilizations and ancient gods. The primary setting takes place on the planet Erudite, the center of a geocentric system. Throughout the history of Erudite, mortals have been influenced by the actions of the gods in the distant past.
Genre overview
Erudite Tales leans into hard fantasy. While it is a magical world that takes inspiration from various real-world folklore, it has grounded, internal logic to its fantasy elements in order to strive for consistency. The setting takes inspiration from various pre-modern cosmologies taking their world structures from an analytical angle.
Eras
Erudite Tales is divided into several eras separated by the relative dominant technologies at the time.
*Pre-Shattering Era - The ancient time of the gods. The Old Pantheon ruled over Erudite and bestowed the seven Aard'Vorn upon mortals. The murder of the moon goddess Isha leads to an event known as the Shattering which results in the eventual death of the old gods.
*Tribal Era - The majority of mortals live on Erudite as hunter-gatherers. Each of the different races migrate across the world to claim the land.
*Antiquity Era - The earliest civilizations of mortals take their place. These were the trailblazers that made advancements in magical research including the development of magitek.
*Medieval Era - A dark period begins as many magitek wielding civilizations collapse forcing most mortals to rely more on practical technology.
*Renaissance Era - The start of the era begins with the Demon Wars, where demons from Brunikor invade the mortal realm. When mortals push back and achieve victory, they enter a golden period of renewed creativity.
*Steam Era - Steam power becomes more prominent as mortals enter an industrial revolution. Non-magical technological development accelerates as ekati begins to run short.
*Cyber Era - A new energy source known as blue sap leads to the discovery of a new school of magic called technomancy. With a solution to the ekati shortage in hand, Erudite enters a period of a rapid exchange of ideas and the development of computer technology.
*The Unknown Future - Exactly 1,020 years after the Demon Wars, all time travel magic ceases to function due to the threads of fate coming to an end. The world continues to exist but even the gods don't know what will happen next.

Website history
Earliest days (2012 - 2015)
Erudite Tales was once part a multi-wiki group known as the Omniverse Nexus. It was the second setting to be introduced after Galactic Crucibles when users expressed a desire to explore fantasy elements in what was otherwise a predominantly sci-fi worldbuilding community. The original host was Wikia, now rebranded as Fandom. Despite the separation, many of the same authors for Galactic Crucibles also wrote for Erudite Tales.
MediaWiki era (2016 - 2020)
After months of discussion and debate, it was decided in 2015 that the Nexus community had outgrown Wikia as by that time the latter had shifted its focus to fandoms rather than original content. To facilitate complete control over the creations on the Nexus sites, Erudite Tales and the other wikis merged under a new, unified network now known as the Omniverse Nexus. The new site became host to six different settings: Galactic Crucibles, Erudite Tales, Infinite Histories, Dreamwalkers, Heroic Ages and Smog Hollows.
Closure of the Omniverse Nexus (2020)
On the 13th of November of 2020, it was officially announced that the Omniverse Nexus would be closed down. This was due to a variety of reasons from scheduling conflicts to creative differences. However, the most significant reason was that it was deemed that the individual settings of the Omniverse Nexus would flourish more strongly on their own. And thus, after more than ten years of storytelling and worldbuilding, the Omniverse Nexus was discontinued, and the community went their separate ways.
*Galactic Crucibles - Galactic Crucibles became its own wiki which can be viewed here. While migrating articles from the old website, an opportunity was taken to retcon some story elements to better refocus on the xenofiction aspect.
*Erudite Tales - Erudite Tales has its own revitalization in the works as well as its own website which you are currently viewing. Erudite Tales went into a dormant period for about two years while its authors focused on migrating Galactic Crucibles, the largest setting of the Omniverse Nexus at the time.
*Dreamwalkers - Dreamwalkers was split into two separate settings with only loose connections between them. There's Chromogar's Sagamaya saga and Krayfishkarl's Dreamwalkers section of Krayfishkarl's Krayverse. Krayfishkarl's Dreamwalkers would eventually merge into Erudite Tales, taking place in that setting's distant future.
*Heroic Ages - Heroic Ages was rebooted to focus on the story arc taking place in the MIM solar system. It can be found here as its own section of Krayfishkarl's Krayverse.

The new Erudite Tales era (2022 - present)
Erudite Tales emerged from dormancy when Maj and Krayfishkarl began to sort through the older lore in order to create a new, consistent storyline. On 15 August 2023, the old Omniverse Nexus website was shut down. However, the stories themselves still survive, and many more await to be told!

The Vanadian Empire were an ancient, magitek empire of dwarves that was contemporary to the Segaran Technocracy. They occupied the region of Subterra underneath the ocean west of Khyorgan.
Demographics
Despite the fact that dwarves were less magically gifted than other races, the Vanadians were known to have conducted many magical experiments. Through intensively controlled breeding programs, they enhanced themselves and their capabilities to effectively create a new subrace of dwarf exlusive to their empire. Vanadian dwarves tend to have grey skin and red glowing eyes as a result.
Technology
Replica Worldstone
Replica Worldstone
One of the Vanadian Empire's early experiments was to create a replica Aard'Vorn. They believed that the Aard'Vorn should not be exlusive to Eidyn and desired to create their own so that they could maintain their power and influence. While they only succeeded in making a replica of the Worldstone, this still rapidly accelerated their technology - especially when it came to strip mining and constructing vast underground strongholds. Because of their actions of digging deep underground along with acquiring vast amounts of Deep Ekati for their experiments, they found themselves at near constant war with the Arbiters.

Thalefeaster
The Vanadians also experimented with creating various magical life forms. They are responsible for creating the Thalefeaster, an enormous tick-like creature that fed on the energy Erudite's planetary core. Not only did this allow them to acquire massive amounts of magical power, they also effectively held the entire world hostage during their reign. The Thalefeaster posed a constant threat of exploding which would cause a chain reaction that would destroy the entire planet.

Even after the demise of the Vanadians, the Thalefeaster remained behind hundreds of years later, still posing a threat to the world.

Below is a timeline of the events that take place on Erudite.
Before the Shattering (BtS)
*Asmos forms from random permutations of chaos into a sentient mind.
*Asmos begins to shape the universe by creating many other worlds before settling on the area of space that would become Erudite.
*Asmos creates the Karaihe as architects of the various planets.
*Asmos creates Ouros. As a consequence of a creator such as Ouros being brought into the world, an equally powerful force of destruction is spawned forth in the form of Vaskus.
*Ouros creates the Old Pantheon who take the form of celestial bodies. Seven of them are the seven elemental gods who take the forms of other planets, while Ouros takes the form of the sun. Two others, Isha and Kosa, take the place of Erudite’s two moons.
*The Old Pantheon creates Erudite, a planet in the middle, forming a geocentric system. They also create the Moroitos to inhabit it.
*The seven Aard’Vorn are introduced to Erudite.
*The Shattering takes place. This causes Erudite’s ring, Isha’s Grace, to appear.
**Isha, one of the moon goddesses is murdered by Vaskus.
**A fragment of Isha falls to the continent of Swen, eradicating all life there.
**Akupara, a continent-sized turtle from off the coast of Bhari'Adavi, is slain by Vaskus.

Before Demon Wars (BDW)
*Vaskus, Ouros, and the Old Pantheon are all dead. At least, insofar as an immortal can die.
*The Great Spirit, the first Aetherian, is born.
*The Aetherian race begins to fill the roles of the old gods as they start to absorb their memories.
*The Celestial Council is formed.
*An Aetherian known as the Great Spirit discoveres the last seed of the Tree of Dreams and plants on the continent of Swen, hoping to help restore life to it.
*The Great Spirit inadvertently creates Antithesis when he absorbs some of the memories of Vaskus.
Tribal Era (>3,000 BDW)
*Migration era of Eidyn:
**Humans arrive to Eidyn from Brumal. They bring with them the Aard’Vorn and eventually divide into several ethnic and cultural groups spread across Eidyn. The Jad in Leir, the Haradinoi in Varden, the Mediuso in Gierkliff, the Erebnyx in Sky Pass, and the Atallaeci in Teleios.
**Elves, also known as Thar, migrate north from the land of Valorum to the south. These ancestor elves became the Vulcan Elves of Heznland, the Frost Elves of Shuang, and the Water Elves of Leir, as well as the Deep Elves and the Kronos Elves.
**Dwarves show up in Eidyn.
**Seafaring elves from Valorum settle Lunar Atoll to become the Fallathar. (~10,000 BDW)
*The first humans arrive in Swen where they discover the blue sap and begin mutating into Zula and Goar.
*The First Rupture occurs when the Zula and Goar break out into a war. (~10,000 BDW)
**The Goar are banished into the Tree of Dreams' Realm of Darkness.
**The Zula exile themselves into the Tree of Dreams' Realm of Light.
*The floating city of Ouropoli is constructed.
*Ardas and Wasa battle it out in what eventually becomes Leir.
**The Water Elves are forced out to sea where they become Sea Elves.
*Archei dwarves arrive in Swen through a passage in Subterra.

Antiquity Era (3,000-650 BDW)
*The Aard’Vorn are scattered.
*The Arbiters form as a knightly order to prevent mortals from acquiring Deep Ekati.
*Demons begin their regular raids on mortals.
*Orcs are expelled from the Limestone Plains of the Verdant Wilderness by the progenitors of Fraengal. (2,581 BDW)
**This begins the Orcish Exodus, with orcs living on the fringes of other societies and facing frequent mistreatment and persecution.
*Khyorganese migration (2,400 BDW)
**Humans from Eidyn settle in Obreidhion. These early human settlers would form the Adonbaxi and Andavronian cultures.
**Elves from Valorum settle along the coastlines of Obreidhion and Lexighor, in Bossniri, the Southern Amacata Highlands, Lunar Atoll, and the Khios Mountains. These Vulcan Elf populations become the Root Elves, Sand Elves, Moon Elves, and Snow Elves.
**The Dwarves settle in Western Lexighor, in the Archei mountains.
**Orcs, left with the least valuable scraps the other races haven’t taken over, have little choice but to settle in the inhospitable Desert of Lexighor.
*The dragon Piasa dies, and his fossilized remains become the home for the Taulan Tribe.
*City of Gammel is founded in Leir.
*City of Nal’jadoria is founded.
*King Nebu commissions the creation of the Grand Idol.
*Dariel the Conqueror invades Emsius.
*The Empire of the Red Tower establishes a colony in eastern Obreidhion (1,000 BDW)

Cyber Era (1000 ADW +)
The cyber era sees computer technology taking the mainstream. Circuit boards and electronics are now commonplace. They are also seamlessly integrated with magic as the electrical impulses on circuit boards can now simulate incantations and enchantments. Effectively, programmable magic became easily accessible to everyone without having to spend years of training to become proficient in even basic spellcasting.

This led to rapid advancements in other technologies such as jet propulsion, hovercrafts and the foundations of a global teleportation network. This immensely boosted trade between the continents and made travel far less cumbersome. A new school of magic called technomancy was founded as a result.

While the 940s ADW saw the first utilization of these technologies, it was around 1000 ADW that it see a lot of widespread use. As such, it is largely considered the starting year of the Cyber Era.

*The Martines Dreamwalking Academy is founded. (1004 ADW)
*Maximum Chronomancy Date (1020 ADW) - The furthest possible date chronomancy is able to go forward in time. When normal time hits this date, all chronomancy will stop working. It is believed that this directly has to do with Asmos never having planned any further into the future than this date and thus, it no longer has any Old Pantheon memories to draw upon.
**Many chronomancy-based magitek devices suddenly stop working.
**The Chronomancy Blink - A large population of historical chronomancers suddenly appear all at once, having traveled here curious about this future date. As they are unable to return to their original time periods, they become stranded.
*The Final Rupture (1020 ADW)
**The apocalypse prophecy foretold in Asmosianism comes true as Asmos prepares to leave the world of Erudite to die to Antithesis.
**A Goar named Praxis offers to save all mortals by putting them all to sleep and bringing their souls into the next world, at the cost of him ruling over them.
**Praxis' offer is rejected, but the sleeping spell is cast anyway.
*The Long Nightmare (1021 ADW)
**All mortals across all of Erudite are under a sleeping spell. Only those capable of dreamwalking can remain active.
**The battle against Antithesis rages on in the world of dreams.
*The Unknown Future begins. (1022 ADW)
**The mortal population of Erudite wakes up when Antithesis is defeated.
**Asmos has never planned for Erudite to last this long, and thus, has no further knowledge of what will come to pass next. Asmos is no longer considered omniscient.

*The Dreamwalking Thesis is published. (1004 ADW)

Replica Worlstone

The Replica Worldstone is an artifact created by the Vanadian Empire in an attempt to produce more Aard'Vorn. Forged from Deep Ekati, the Replica Worldstone was designed to match the strength and power output of the real Worldstone. While the Vanadians did succeed, this was the only replica Aard'Vorn they managed to create, and it was largely enough for them to use for their goals in conquering Subterra.

While the Replica Worldstone bears many similarities to the real Worldstone, it lacks the inherent magical connections that causes it to resonate with other Aard'Vorn. Because of this, it can never be quite as powerful as the real thing. In essence, it is little more than really powerful ekati tool heavily specialized in earth magic. It is thought the Vanadians named it after the Worldstone to misdirect and to strike fear into others.
The chasm is considered impassable without some sort of flying device or spell. However, geological markings along the walls indicate that Titan Tortoises once nested in the area. These giant species of tortoise have backs made out of rock and can live for tens of thousands of years, many specimens being older than all of mortal civilization. The dwarves that crossed through used their backs to cross the chasm. However, since then, the Titan Tortoises migrated to other nesting areas, leaving the chasm abandoned and isolating the dwarves of Khyorgan and Swen.
The Vanadian Borehole is a massive, vertical excavation tunnel originally created by the Vanadian Empire using a Replica Worldstone. It is along one of the most direct paths to the planetary core. Naturally, many hostile creatures have used the passage as well.
Planetary Core
The Planetary Core, sometimes known as the Heart of Erudite, is an enormous ekati structure. It is the single largest concentration of ekati on the planet. However, the magic it emits is responsible for holding the planet itself together. Were the core ever to run out of magic, the planet would break apart and the continents may drift away into space. However, such an event is not expected to occur for eons, perhaps billions of years more than the universe has ever existed.

Of course, a powerful civilization capable of harvesting its energy could theoretically drain its magic which would cause its lifespan to shorten. In the entire history of Erudite, only one civilization has ever attempted this feat. During the late Antiquity Era, a massive, magically capable empire society known as the Vanadian Empire sought to dominate the world by seizing control of the core to effectively hold it hostage. They created a magical parasite known as the Thalefeaster to harness its energy.

The Vanadians were stopped by not just the Arbiters but also the wrathful Kaiju. It is thought this incident led to the worldwide collapse in technology at the time, leading to the Medieval Era. However, the Arbiters chose not to destroy the Thalefeaster as doing so could risk destroying the entire planet with it.

Dwarves (Homo Validus) are short, stocky humanoids that typically make their homes within deep caverns.
Physiology
Dwarves typically stood between three and four feet tall. What distinguishes them most from shorter humans are their broad shoulders and short limbs relative to their body size. They tend to have pronounced noses and square jawlines. Males typically grow very long beards. Dwarves in general tend to have a lot of muscle mass for their size, suitable for their typical behavior for excavating and digging tunnels. Dwarves also have slightly larger eyes compared to other humanoids. Their eyes allow them to almost perfectly see in the dark.

Dwarves age slower than humans, reaching full maturity at age 40. Their lifespans are comparable to elves, with some of the oldest dwarves reaching age 600. It is thought that their rugged physiologies and general endurance have allowed them to fairly easily resist disease and other ailments.

Because of their general body composition, dwarves are unusually tolerant of alcohol. Prehistoric dwarves often relied on alcohol largely because it was the cleanest source of drink around, moreso than many of Subterra's underground springs due to often being contaminated with radiant ekati. Because of this, dwarves are often stereotyped as being obsessed with drinking - something which actually is not too far off from reality.

Dwarves do not have a strong affinity for magic. What comes easily for humans and elves takes far more effort for them to learn. As such, most dwarven societies tend to make use of non-magical technology. Of the uncommon dwarves that do study magic, most of them tend to specialize in earth and metal magic.
History
Dwarves are distantly related to humans, having descended from the first settlers of Khyorgan and Eidyn. Most dwarves across the world trace their ancestry to either the Archei Clans that settled the Archei Mountains or the dwarves of North Eidyn. While most other humanoid species preferred to stay on the surface, dwarves were fairly quick to colonize various caverns throughout Subterra. Over time, they traveled across the world using Subterra's tunnels.

Subterra is a massive network of caves and tunnels deep below Erudite's surface. It consists of the gaps of the mostly hollow planet. It is a vibrant ecosystem of its own, often featuring life that evolved completely independently from the surface. Because of these large spaces and abdundance of ekati, Subterra is also home to various Kaiju, gargantuan beings that passively feed off of radiant ekati energy to survive.

The deeper one travels, the more likely someone will find Deep Ekati. The knightly order known as the Arbiters patrol the deepest parts of Subterra to deter anyone from prodding around - whether they are curious adventurers or malevolent warlocks seeking to harness its power.

During the Cyber Era, MagiNet cables are wired through the tunnels which enable for the possibility of a global teleportation network. These cables are heavily protected, because a stray monster chewing on them could greatly disrupt trade and communication between continents.
Wind Caves
Wind Caves

A series of tunnels that wind currents flow through. They greatly affect the weather on the surface.
Kohatu-Nui
Kohatu-Nui

A massive crystalline cave just below Emsius. It is home to the Karaihe.
City of Judgment
The City of Judgment is the location for the headquarters of the Arbiters. The buildings are carved directly into the stone with a surprising intricacy. Living mortals are expressly forbidden from visiting it as to maintain the secrecy of the Arbiters. It is also the location where anyone found attempting to mine Deep Ekati is detained.
Stenkolpad Pass
Stenkolpad Pass is a vast undeground chasm in the southern hemisphere directly underneath the oceans separating Khyorgan and Swen. Today, it is not particularly remarkable, but in the distant past, it was the route that ancient Archei dwarves took to reach Swen.

In the Cyber Era, it is used as a pathway for MagiNet cables connecting the network between Khyorgan and Swen.

During the late Antiquity Era, a massive, magically capable empire sought to dominate the world by seizing control of the core to effectively hold it hostage. They were stopped by not just the Arbiters but also the wrathful Kaiju. It is thought this incident led to the worldwide collapse in technology at the time, leading to the Medieval Era.
The central figurehead is known as the Kudzu King, a giant vaguely humanoid green monster with one eye, a set of bull horns and a tentacle beard in place of a mouth.
The exact origins of the Kudzu are unknown, but it is thought to have appeared randomly within the Chaos Storms in Brunikor. From there, it would have shaped its own plane of existence simple known as the Kudzu Domain. From there, it would plan to invade Erudite. After a devastating magical war in Gierkliff, it saw an opportunity to invade and took advantage of the active ekati radiation in the area at the time. It managed to open a portal from Mt. Oblivion and began to seize control of the region.

The Kudzu, however, was stopped by a Menaran named Aller. Though the Kudzu was not completely destroyed, the portal at Mt. Oblivion was sealed away.

This article covers the cosmology of the universe of Erudite.
Ekati
Ekati
Ekati is an ore-like substance leftover from the creation of the world. It is a power source that can be attuned to form any one of the seven elements: aether, air, fire, wood, water, earth and metal. The ability to manipulate the powers of ekati, known as magic, is often limited by the physical and mental capabilities of the one doing so. For mortals, it can take many years to master the arts of magic.

The entire universe was once made entirely of ekati but over random generations of chaos, the gods eventually came into existence and shaped the universe. Besides being found in Erudite's crust, leftover ekati can be found in asteroids and meteors as well as in distant stars.

A variant of ekati found closer to Erudite's core is known as Deep Ekati. It is far more volatile and dangerous than normal ekati, and it is also capable of what is considered to be more taboo forms of magic.
Seven Elements
The seven elements have been studied by cultures all over Erudite. By manipulating them, a variety of different effects can be achieved.
*Aether - Aether is the cosmic forces that connect time and space together. One can perform illusion magic, teleportation and divination with the powers of aether. Aether is also the name used to describe the space between the planets.
*Air - Wind currents can be manipulated.
*Fire - One can control flames and heat.
*Wood - Represents not only the bark of trees, but also physical components of organic life.
*Water - Water comprises of oceans, seas, rivers and other bodies of water.
*Earth - Earth comprises the stone and rock of the world.
*Metal - Metal represents gemstones and refined minerals.
Weaves of Fate
One of the driving forces of space-time are the weaves of fate which are often described as a series of "threads" that connect the destinies and fates of all living beings. They were created directly by Asmos to direct the development of intelligent life and even other gods. A person who can see into the weaves of fate can create prophecies. These weaves are capable of being changed with aether magic although some events are considered absolute and cannot be changed by even the gods. These absolute events are few in Erudite's history, but at least one of them is known: the start of the Demon Wars. The events leading up to this point can be changed, but the fact that Demons from Brunikor will invade Erudite on or around 0 ADW cannot be altered whatsoever.

Curiously, the weaves of fate completely stop exactly 1,020 years after the Demon Wars. While the world will not cease to exist, all chronomancy and any sort of magic relying on the weaves of fate will completely stop working. It is said that Asmos never planned anything beyond this point in time, leaving Erudite to its own unknown fate. This point of time has been observed by multiple cultures leading to many prophecies foretelling the end of the world.

Worlds
Erudite
Erudite is the planet at the center of the universe. All other celestial bodies orbit around it making it the center of a geocentric system. It has a diameter of approximately 24,000 kilometers though its hollow interiors make it less dense than most of the other worlds nearby. Its gravity has been measured at 9.81 meters per second.

Erudite has two moons, Isha and Kosa, as well as a ring known as Isha's Grace.
Isha
One of Erudite's moons, Isha is the remains of a god that was murdered. The event in which she was destroyed to form the ring system is known as the Shattering. The moon is in the shape of a giant snail shell spiral.
Kosa
The second of Erudite's moons which remains intact unlike her counterpart. It is also in the shape of a giant snail shell spiral.
Ouros
The last remains of the god Ouros make up the sun of Erudite's system. It is a dim red star that orbits Erudite alongside the other planets.
World of Starlight
World of Starlight

The farthest planet away, it is an airless rocky world where star sprites like to congregate. Smaller asteroids orbit it in large, scattered clusters. It represents the element of aether.

World of Gusts
A large gas giant covered in white, silvery clouds. Aside from the World of Flames, it is the most visible on Erudite’s surface as a bright star. It represents the element of air.
World of Flames
A planet close to the sun. It is covered entirely in lava, erupting volcanoes and shifting continents. It represents the element of fire.
World of Leaves
A planet smaller than Erudite covered in green moss and algae while its continental plates are held together by giant trees with roots that cover the planet’s core. It represents the element of wood.
World of Rain
A large world made entirely of water. Swirling storm clouds are the source of rain and thunder across its surface. It represents the element of water.
World of Clay
A small barren, rocky desert world with taller mountains and deeper valleys than anything on Erudite. It represents the element of earth.
World of Steel
A planet covered in large sheets of metal and crystalline pylons that surge with electricity. It represents the element of metal.
Brunikor
Brunikor
Brunikor is an in-between world home to the demons. It is another plane of existence where leftover chaos from the creation of the universe was sent.

Constellations
The stars seen from Erudite are positioned in a way that they form patterns in the sky known as constellations. While many cultures have given them different names, the most commonly used names are as follows:
*The Sundial
*The Crown
*The Scythe
*The Cross
*The Sword
*The Shield
*The Rider
*The Rose
*The Hand
*The Jester
*The Gate
*The Trio

Brunikor (also known as the Chaos) is the plane of existence where Demons originate from. Consisting of creation that was never developed into proper worlds by the gods, Brunikor comprises of random chaotic magic as well as previous versions of the universe that were discarded by Asmos. As such, it is thought that the entire universe once looked like Brunikor.

Mortals and most living things cannot survive in Brunikor without the assistance of powerful aether magic. The space-time of the area is simply too unstable for normal living beings to survive within it. As such, the only entities one is likely to find are Demons, life forms that sprung up naturally from the chaos. However, Demons themselves cannot survive in normal space without similar sort of assistance. This means that most Demons that enter Erudite either use a shadowy projection of their true form or travel directly through powerful summoning magic.
Regions
Chaos Storms
The Chaos Storms are violent, swirling masses of crimson clouds and ash that crackle with lightning. They are the most primordial aspect of the universe - raw chaos itself. It is what the entire universe looked like before Erudite was created. Within these storms eventually form giant crystalline shards of ekati that clash with one another, creating random permutations of magical energy that forms into asteroids and stars. It is not just matter and energy clashing but also time and space.

Asmos himself was born within these storms after enough random permutations caused a sapient entity to appear. It is speculated that there are other god-like beings similar to Asmos within the storms, although their whereabouts are unknown and most mortals are unaware they even exist.

The Chaos Storms are also the source of energy for creating artificial ekati. However, because reaching into this plane of existence slowly deteriorates one's mind over time, the practice was eventually banned across most of Erudite. Some of the last practitioners to openly use it were the nations of Emsius as a possible solution to the ekati shortage.
Stable Areas
There are pockets of calm areas of these storms although they are very rare as they take eons to form after countless, random permutations of combined matter and energy. They form into their own separate planes of existence as bubbles of reality among the Chaos Storms.

Erudite and its surrounding planets exist in one such calm area. While the existence of other calm areas has been hypothesized, any other full fledged worlds at the scale of Erudite have yet to be discovered. It is not likely to be possible for mortals to be able to travel to them physically. However, the Tree of Dreams does connect to these worlds which allows a mortal to use astral projection to visit them.
Discarded Worlds
The Discarded Worlds are the remnants of previous iterations of the universe. These were Asmos' failed attempts to create the world of Erudite. They consist of a variety of floating continents and fractured worlds drifting aimlessly. They do not exist as physical manifestations but have the same level of tangibility as dreams. Time does not flow linearily, often looping or going backwards.

When Asmos discards a world, he does so indirectly. Rather than destroying it physically, he instead allows its Weaves of Fate run out. All fate, destiny and prophecies cease and chronomancy becomes impossible. How long it takes to decay depends on how many sapient mortals remain awake and in a conscious state. If the remaining mortals either die or enter a deep sleep, the world itself eventually goes into a sleeping state with them.

The Discarded Worlds are considered to be on the very edge of reality. They are dangerous to visit. A mortal will risk fading away from existence from remaining too long in the area. It is thought that Erudite itself is destined to become part of these worlds once its Weaves of Fate run out.

The Tree of Dreams on the continent of Swen has metaphysically connected to these worlds between planes of existence, serving as a conduit in which a dreamwalker can access them. According to folktales from Swen, when someone wakes up from a dream and forgets about it, the forgotten dream drifts into the Discarded Worlds taking their place alongside the worlds Asmos discarded himself.
Points of interest
Among the regions of Brunikor are unique areas that stand out among the chaos.
Duivelmassa
The largest known civilization in Brunikor is a large city known as Duivelmassa. It is a gigantic floating city made out of chunks of volcanic rock. Towers twist in impossible, chaotic directions, and it is said if a mortal were to be able to walk through its halls, they would go mad from trying to process them mentally.

Various Demon Lords congregate here to brutally rule over their subjects. Lesser demons constantly scheme ways to usurp them and rise in the ranks.
Kudzu Domain
A miniature plane of existence formed by an ambitious demon known as the Kudzu. In the sky is a crimson gas giant with a large ring system. All throughout the Kudzu Domain is a thick miasma that rots the land and puts mortals under the control of the Kudzu. Strangely enough, children are immune to the effects of the miasma.

During the Medieval Era, the Kudzu created a breach in reality at Mt. Oblivion in Gierkliff. From there, the Kudzu was able to invade and take over most of the region until it was stopped by a young Menaran named Aller.

Shuang is vast, icy plain located in the southernmost part of Eidyn.

From the land adjacent to it, it slopes upward into a mountain range, then becomes a large plateau. At the coast is a steep cliff next to a flat, frozen plain. Throughout this plateau are dotted rocky outcroppings and mountains. Although the snow does not melt during the summer months, plants and other trees can thrive here. The flora here appears crystalline, blue and icy.

Shuang is an ice desert with very little snowfall, yet the locals manage to thrive here. In Shuang is a vast civilization known as the Xeng Empire, inhabited by frost elves. However, before the ancient elf Chun used the Flame Sigil to bring life to the land, Shuang was completely inhospitable.
History
Fearing that the Flame Sigil could be misused, its discoverer Chun only used it to bring life to Shuang. He then hid it away in the Temple of Hozai.

The golden age of the Frost Elves soon followed. Machines grew predominant and cities became industrialized, largely relying on steampower and magitek to accomplish. The largest nation to form in the area was the Xeng Empire.

During the Leir Empire's campaign to acquire all the Aard'Vorn, they stole the Flame Sigil from the Temple of Hozai. This unfortunately caused Shuang to eventually freeze over once more. In one fell swoop, the Xeng Empire collapsed. Most who did not succumb to the eternal winter fled to warmer climates to the north, the south and in Subterra. Only the hardiest of the Shuang Nomads managed to continue living on the surface, and even they had to resort to an assortment of various types of magic to survive.
Points of Interest
Temple of Hozai
Temple of Hozai

The Temple of Hozai is an ancient temple older than the Xeng Empire, originally built by the elf Chun. The Flame Sigil, located deep inside, is believed to keep the Shuang region from completely freezing over. Should the Flame Sigil be removed from the temple, the land of Shuang would be doomed to turn into a wasteland. The temple is found at the summit of Mt. Shen Wu.
Imperial Lands
The Imperial Lands are the regions controlled by the Xeng Empire. These are easily noticeable by the roads and fortified cities. The most powerful city-state is Yang Bao, the supposedly impenetrable city.
Nomad Wilds
The wilderness areas of Shuang. Most of the larger creatures inhabit this area, and it is therefore more dangerous. It connects directly to the edge of the world, where the terrain becomes highly exotic and irregular.

Geographic features
The "islands" have since become mountains and mesas ever since the Phantom Seas were dried up.
Ling Mountains
A chain of mountains that surrounds the Xeng Empire. Their rugged terrain makes it difficult to traverse, and the most practical access point is the city of Dailu. The eastern half of the Ling Mountains split into two ranges - the North Ling Mountains and the South Ling Mountains.
Mt. Shen Wu
One of the highest peaks in Eidyn, the tallest of the Ling Mountains. The Shuang Nomads have a tradition of climbing the mountain as a rite of passage to adulthood, but the Xeng Empire has a presence there, because they are wary that the Flame Sigil could be stolen.
Lake Hu
Lake Hu is a large unfrozen, freshwater lake near the northeastern corner of Shuang near the cliffside coasts. It is the most readily available water and food source in the entire region. The capital of the Xeng Empire, Yang Bao, is found surrounding the coastlines of the lake. In the middle of the lake is Quan Island, a small isle connected to the mainland via a drawbridge where the Imperial Palace is located.
Jiao Island
Jiao Island

An island just off the northern coast of Shuang. On this island are odd creatures known as Hsigo, which are flying snow monkeys with human faces.
Noraur Isle
A large island off the coast of northeastern Shuang. Below lies the vast city of Ghadi only reachable via sea. Noraur has cliffside coasts and a patch of greenery on the top.

Sen Forest
Sen Forest

A green area to the far east in the Xeng Empire. It has become the main source of lumber for the Xeng Empire. While the Xengese prefer to use stone and metals in their architecture, wood was discovered to be usable in the construction of ships. As a result, outside of Shui are large tree farms - the wood there was used to construct the boats part of the Xeng navy.
Crucible Mountain
Crucible Mountain

Crucible Mountain is an active volcano in the region of Shuang. Legend holds that in the age of the Shattering, a rare Colossus Demon emerged from the earth. Thus, the surrounding area was scorched with volcanic rock and dead trees, a sharp contrast to the ice desert Shuang already is. As the area has actively flowing lava, it is dangerous to approach, but the increase in volcanic activity has created pleasantly temperate areas, allowing for the construction of city-states such as Froststream.
River Da-Chuan
The River Da-Chuan is a major trade route for the Xeng Empire. It begins as meltwater originating from Crucible Mountain which empties out into a basin which Froststream is built around. Then, for 2,000 miles it flows throughout central Shuang until eventually emptying out into Lake Hu. From there, the river continues until eventually flowing off of Shuang's cliffside coasts as a great waterfall. The riverbed itself is also rich with hephaestus and keeps the river unfrozen at almost all times, as a small lava vent flows under most of the river which gives the hephaestus its high and constant temperatures.
Lianjie Glacier
Lianjie Glacier was one of the major landmasses used in draining the Phantom Seas. It connected mainland Shuang to what were once islands.
Ecosystem
Ice desert
*Spirit Dragon - A benevolent species of dragon capable of speech. They are ethereal creatures often summoned by Xeng Shamen. They live in the mountains and serve as guardians and protectors. They intensely distrust the dragon-men, however.
*Mammoth - A large pachioderm covered in fur. Mammoths herds are hunted both by nomads and the Xeng Empire.
*Bashe - A gigantic, burrowing serpent that preys on mammoths
*Yeti - Yetis are large ape-like creatures that exhibit profound intelligence. The leader of the yetis is known as Yeren, who prefers to keep to itself.
*White Tiger - A tiger that brings snowfall to wherever it dashes.
*Nine Phoenix - A giant ice-phoenix with nine heads. It is a hostile creature.
*Snow bear - A large, aggressive carnivore.
*Ice spirits - These are ethereal creatures that inhabit the land of Shuang. They are worshipped by the Xengese Frost Elves.
*Hsigo - Flying monkeys found on Jiao Island.
*Xiangliu - A large nine-headed dragon beast that once inhabited Shuang. It was slain by an ancient warrior, but it is rumored to still be alive.
*Slothra - A mole-sloth creature with two large arms and great claws. They live at the base of Crucible Mountain.
River life
*Geyser Beetle - A large insect with a tough carapace that lives around the River Da-Chuan. It lays eggs inside a geyser. When it erupts, the eggs spread out like spores and populate the area.
*Scalderfish - As the geysers scald this fish constantly, when caught, it tastes like it is cooked.
*Chuan Crane - A crane that hunts Geyser Beetles. Their feathers are heat proof and so are their eggs. Chuan Cranes are often hunted for their feathers to create boats, and their eggs for both the shells for boats and little Chuan Cranes for farming feathers.

Krayfishkarl: /* Steam Era (500-1,000 ADW) */

**Spirits suddenly become more common outside of the dream worlds.

*The Dreamwalking Thesis is published. (1004 ADW)

In the Cyber Era, it is used as a pathway for MagiNet cables connecting the network between Khyorgan and Swen.

Biodiversity
*Titan Tortoise - Titan Tortoises are ancient Kaiju that can be mistaken for mountains. They used to populate the surface of Erudite until they were forced underground after the Shattering. They can live for thousands of years, and they spend most of their time sleeping, often for centuries at a time. Titan Tortoises feed on rock, often carving tunnels as they move. Wherever they are nested, other life forms will use their backs as makeshift paths to cross chasms.
*Crystalwing fly - A common species of insect known for its crystalline wings. They are often found near desposits of ekati crystals.

The MagiNet is an artificial network of mixed magic and technology including telepathic links, teleportation anchors, aethernet cables as well as radio and wireless networks. Built as a cooperative network of various nations around Eidyn, Valorum, Khyorgan and Swen, it allows for instantaneous communication across all of Erudite.
History
Following the Battle for Erudite, the idea of a worldwide communications network was conceived in hopes of improving coordination further should a world-ending threat like Kino ever arise again. The idea of establishing dedicated teleportation anchors to make magical teleportation much simpler and consume less mana and ekati.

Experiments of transferring magic through cables had been experimented on before, but the idea of implementing it on a larger scale was thought to be technically infeasible. The idea of using orbital satellites to redirect teleportation locations was also proposed, but due to the sheer size of Erudite, this would have only been useful across a single continent. The most practical solution, given enough time and resources, would be to route these cables through Subterra, not only due to the shorter distance but also avoiding threats of sea monsters were the cables to be put into the ocean instead.

Each nation that had agreed to be part of the MagiNet project became responsible for their own section of laying out MagiNet cables. Underground-dwelling species such as the dwarves offered their insight on the most optimal routes, avoiding the nesting grounds of Kaiju as well as large desposits of Deep Ekati that could corrupt the signals. The actual process of laying out the cables involved underground airships unraveling them and dragging them through the tunnels and caverns. Some areas had to be laid out by hand for areas that were too small for the airships to enter.

The project did not go smoothly at all times. Kaiju attacks often resulted in the loss of equipment. Additionally, several underground nomadic factions became hostile due to the cables crossing over their hunting grounds. The general shortage of ekati also caused significant delays due to fuel shortages for the airships. New types of non-magical airships had to be created towards the latter half of the project to replace the older ones.

After centuries of work and collaboration across multiple nations, the network was officially almost exactly 1,000 years after the Demon Wars, the start of Erudite's Cyber Era.

*The Dreamwalking Thesis is published. (1004 ADW)
The only part of the region that can be settled is an area along the mountains called the Northern Reaches.

Most settlements in North Eidyn are located underground in Subterra. As such, the most common race to inhabit this area are dwarves.

Geography
North Eidyn is an ice desert, and as a result has remarkably similar features like Shuang. However, it is a much harsher environment. Snowstorms are relentless and the cold is a constant danger, with only short summers making any headway to warm the region. The region is so inhospitable that the wildlife here have become almost alien to Eidyn in order to survive. Glaciers and large dunes of granular ice also dot the region.

Biodiversity
*Naval peguin: A blue penguin living in colonies in large underground ice caverns.
*Raider penguin: A black penguin that is the natural enemy of the naval with similar habits to them.

It is a vibrant ecosystem of its own, often featuring life that evolved completely independently from the surface. ===Stenkolpad Pass===
Stenkolpad Pass is a vast undeground chasm in the southern hemisphere directly underneath the oceans separating Khyorgan and Swen. Today, it is not particularly remarkable, but in the distant past, it was the route that ancient Archei dwarves took to reach Swen.

In the Cyber Era, it is used as a pathway for MagiNet cables connecting the network between Khyorgan and Swen.

The Kalta Tribes are a group of dwarves native to the Kalta Mountains in Swen. They are descended from ancient explorers from Archei that tunneled their way underground all the way from Khyorgan. Unlike Archei dwarves, Kalta dwarves are much taller than most humans. They are thought to be a separate subspecies after having evolved in isolation for thousands of years.

The king of the Kalta Tribes during the Cyber Era was Eitri. His brother Brokkr operates a forge capable of creating Zula technology. This technology was kept a secret until the start of the Cyber Era, where it could serve as a viable alternative to ekati-based magitek.
History
When the dwarves first settled in the Kalta Mountains thousands of years before the Demon Wars, they made contact with the Zula, a tribe of humans that had discovered the power of blue sap. The two formed an alliance where the Zula would teach the Kalta dwarves how to use dreamwalking magic in exchange for their ability to create new technology by forging molten and metal and blue sap together.

When the Zula tribe was banished alongside their rivals, the Goar, the Kalta Tribes had one final commission before they left. They fortified the walls around the Citadel of Eden so that no mortal could enter it. The first human to enter it since then was Xavier Martines who had breached it in the 990s ADW using a dark corridor.

The Kalta Tribes had been very protective of their technology since then, being incredibly wary of outsiders. When the world was threatened during the Second Rupture in 999 ADW, the Kalta Tribes reluctantly allowed other mortals to borrow their technology to help fight against the dark spirits.
