Sand pirate

Sand pirates were bandits, thieves, buccaneers and other criminals that were known to rove the desert. Much like pirates at sea, sand pirates use their own special sort of ship to navigate the desert with ekati batteries serving as a power source - directing the wind around them to push them forward through the dunes. Sand pirates first appeared in Leir around the early Renaissance period, making use of technology invented by the Leir Empire in their early years reclaiming the desert in the decades following the Demon Wars. Besides the hostile wildlife, sand pirates were perhaps one of the most common threats those traveling Leir would experience. Sand pirates would often caravans and if they were bold enough, mining settlements.

Even after the destruction of Leir, sand pirates still roamed, still plundering the treasures left behind by the once great empire. The sandships would see technological advances in the next centuries, eventually abandoning sails in favor of steam-based machinery.
