Star Wisps are light creatures that inhabit the aether. They were among the first life forms to appear when the universe was first created by Asmos. Star Wisps, as their name implies, are often mistaken for stars in the sky due to their glowing appearance. While most stars are just concentrated unrefined ekati, Star Wisps are alive and can move around.

Physiology

Star Wisps vary greatly in size, some being the size of small insect to others being of gargantuan proportions larger than most continents. They are born with a set amount of energy which can last them tens of thousands of years. When this energy runs out, they die. However, Star Wisps can consume matter and even other Star Wisps to extend their lifespan and increase in size. When two Star Wisps try to eat one another, if both are of similar size, they can sometimes trap themselves by orbiting one in another in a binary pair. One such binary pair serves as the inspiration for the Rider constellation.

Small Star Wisps fizzle out peacefully upon death, but the larger ones explode into a supernova capable of destroying entire continents. It was not uncommon for early mystical cultures to continuously offer sacrifices to the Star Wisps to prevent a supernova from happening.

Star Wisps can also take the form of mortals. In fact, it is believed that both will-o-the-wisps and Moon Elfs descend from Star Wisps that ventured Erudite before the Shattering.
