The Vedfolnir Republic is a nation situated in the Vedfolnir, bordering the Leir Empire to the north. It is primarily inhabited by the Virgato, a race of tiger-like humanoids.
Vedfolnir is in possession of the Runebound Foundry, an Aard'Vorn capable of producing a variety of rare metals. As one of the seven Aard'Vorn bearing nations in the wake of the Demon Wars, they were able to rise as an economic and technological powerhouse. They were one of the first nations in Eidyn to have invented factory assembly lines - a technology which they later shared with the Leir Empire leading to the evolution of clay golems into automatons made of metal, mechanical parts known as automatons.
However, the Kingdom of Teleios has contested Vedfolnir's right to the Runebound Foundry, challenging them over historical ownership. Relations have always been tense and disputes over access to the Runebound Foundry and violent skirmishes are not uncommon.
During the late Renaissance era, the Leir Empire would invade Vedfolnir and steal the Runebound Foundry's power - taking advantage of a skirmish between Vedfolnir and Teleios forces attacking one another at the time. Leir used magic to siphon out the molten metal (which is the actual Aard'Vorn) - leaving the foundry itself cold and quiet. As the first Aard'Vorn the Leir Empire acquired in its campaign, this took Vedfolnir by complete surprise. Being suddenly cut off from a major source of power, Vedfolnir fell into an economic depression, forcing them to shut down most of their factories. Their technology stagnated for over a century until an effort was made to convert the old factories from using ekati power to fossil fuels.
Points of interest
Runebound Foundry
An ancient stone forge housing the Aard'Vorn of the same name. It is from here where Vedfolnir can transmute metals and produce vast quantities of metal items. The architectural style is vastly different from that of anywhere else in Vedfolnir as predates the original Virgato settlers. The architecture is consistent with that of Tribal Era Brumal.
Great Orrery
A giant clockwork structure housed within a large dome. It is a mechanical model of Erudite and the planets. Like how Leir Castle was carved out using the Worldstone, the Great Orrery is considered one of the Aard'Vorn wonders of the world. It is located in close proximity to the Runebound Foundry itself, serving as a contrast between old and new architecture.
