Blue sap is a substance produced by the Tree of Dreams in Swen. It can be found all throughout the landscape in small pools, seeping from the tree's roots below the ground and up into the surface, while the strongest concentration of blue sap lies directly at the trunk of the tree within the walls of the Citadel of Eden. Blue sap, when exposed to air for a certain amount of time, eventually crystallizes into an Amberstone.

Blue sap, while having surface level similarities to ekati, works almost entirely differently. While blue sap does contain magical energy within it, for the most part, the raw potency is negligible compared to ekati. Rather, what makes blue sap powerful is that it strengthens a mortal's connection to their own personal mana, putting them in a heightened state of awareness of not just their surroundings but time and space itself. It greatly facilitates the ability to dreamwalk and to convert the energies of the dream worlds within the Tree of Dreams to more tangible, physical energies.

Many early cultures in Swen used blue sap as a means of enhancing the mind. Naturally, it was soon discovered that consuming enough blue sap would transform someone into a Zula, a tall, blue-skinned humanoid with enhanced strength, speed and intelligence. The Zula, to many people, were considered transcendant demigods, although it came with the cost of a rather specific vulnerability. The form of a Zula could only be maintained so long as that person exercised positive emotions or a calm, enlightened outlook. Succumbing to negativity and hatred would cause a mutation into a being called a Goar. While their level of intellect remains unaffected, a Goar essentially loses all sense of empathy and regard for morality. Naturally, Goar are incredibly dangerous, unpredictable and maliciously-inclined.

Despite the risks, blue sap became a viable energy option during the Ekati Shortage in the waning years of the Steam Era. Blue sap is renewable so long as the roots and branches of the Tree of Dreams continue to grow.
