Antithesis is a formless mass of dark thoughts, malice and negative emotions. It was created by the Great Spirit on accident after he tried to absorb some of the memories of the evil god Vaskus, hoping to learn why the Old Pantheon had died. Horrified at what he saw, the Great Spirit purged these thoughts from himself to contain them within another entity. Going forward, in hopes of correcting his mistakes, the Great Spirit dedicated himself to keeping Antithesis at bay to protect mortals.

Antithesis' presence is strongest in the continent of Swen as the Tree of Dreams and its numerous dream worlds serve as a conduit in which Antithesis is capable of manifesting himself. It can control dark spirits as coordinated armies and it can even corrupt light spirits into serving him.

As Antithesis is just a faded memory of Vaskus, he is not necessarily considered alive. He is more comparable to a raw force of nature, drawing power from the negative thoughts of mortals. Those in his presence begin experiencing intense nightmares and manifestations of their worst fears. Those exposed to Antithesis for too long are said to have their minds flayed apart to the point where they lose all sense of empathy and basic emotion, appearing as husks of their former selves. Even in death, a mortal isn't safe as Antithesis can still attack souls that have not moved on to the afterlife, turning them into more dark spirits.
