Kakoans are a short, squat race native to Kakoalatia, a jungle in eastern Gierkliff. They were created as an accidental byproduct of the Seed of Menara by Wood Elves who explored the region, attempting to create a clone of the Great Tree of Bossniri. They have built temples worshipping a tree goddess known as Kakoa, which is in reality an offshoot branch of the Great Tree of Bossniri that adapted to tropical climates. Kakoans are generally considered impish and mischevious by nature. The Wood Elves considered them nuisances due to their history of stealing and raiding their camps although they get along with the Menarans due to their shared heritage with the Seed of Menara.

Kakoans resemble mobile coconuts, standing barely over two feet tall. They have a round body with thin arms and legs. In place of a face, they have two holes for eyes and one hole for a mouth. They have never been observed eating so it is assumed they derive sustenance from either photosynthesis or some unknown magical process. They tend to decorate themselves with paint, feathers, bones and other accessories.

As Kakoan society advanced, they would eventually discover how to build ships to sail the ocean. Many of them set out to explore the oceans, inhabiting various, isolated tropical islands. Kakoan pirates are a common sight, often attacking merchant ships traveling between Eidyn and Khyorgan.

Unlike their Menaran cousins, Kakoans can reproduce without the Seed of Menara. They come from a species of palm tree that produces around twenty coconuts per year - the Kakoa Palm Tree which began from offshoot cuts from the branches of the Great Tree of Bossniri instance. When these coconuts mature, they gain the features of a Kakoan. Naturally, the Kakoans are very protective of these trees and grow them in carefully curated nurseries.
